Abstract:
This one-hour webinar offers an accessible overview of veterinary forensics, focusing on its coreprinciples and real-world applications. The presentation will introduce the role of veterinaryforensic science and medicine in investigating animal abuse and supporting animal welfare, sharerecent research highlights, and present selected case examples. Practical discussion will includehow veterinary forensics can be incorporated into veterinary curricula, with suggestions forcurriculum design and training. This session is designed to provide educators, veterinarians andundergraduate veterinary students with practical insights into the growing field of veterinaryforensics, encouraging greater awareness and engagement.
Speaker bio:
Dr. Wei-Hsiang Huang is an Associate Professor at National Taiwan University, specializing inveterinary forensic pathology and veterinary forensic science. As Taiwan’s leading expert in thefield, Dr. Huang has pioneered the development of veterinary forensic pathology, trauma analysis,and forensic necropsy protocols in Taiwan. His research focuses on forensic diagnosis of animalabuse, stress markers, postmortem interval estimation, and toxicology, with extensivecollaborations across Asia, Europe, and the United States. Dr. Huang is also committed toadvancing veterinary forensic education and has been an invited speaker at numerousinternational conferences. He served as a board member of the International Veterinary ForensicSciences Association from 2019 to 2025, and remains actively engaged in the internationalveterinary forensic science community.
